Opening weekend 2010

Will be out in Polk County tomorrow come whatever may. Will probably hit some small lakes for bass and pike trying to stay out of the wind this weekend. Was hoping to hit some big water with nice structure to test out my new Side Imaging but that doesn't seem like it's in the cards. Lost 9 days of preparation due to illness so there's going to be a few last minute necessities, but shouldn't be too bad.

Had some luck on Holcombe. Wind was tough, but before it picked up we boated a few walleyes, small perch and a nice crappie. The walleyes were cauch either with a jig and a leech or a slip bobber and leach. I'm still trying to ding out the patter on that lake. There are people everywhere, it seems that there is no structure that they are on.

I fished from shore on Sat and Sun afternoon. Explored a stretch of the Chipp Sat and it was tough going - not much for trails or places with enough room to cast. Did catch a white bass and a dandy smallie. Fished some gravel pits on Sun and only caught a couple little largemouths. Need to get either the canoe or float tube out for those.

Fished Yellow for too many hours Saturday for too little to show for it. Wind, waves were BRUTAL! Spent Saturday evening and Sunday morning shore fishing for trout on a little lake with much better success and had more fun just being out of the gale force winds.
