Small Cabin Wood Stoves

Dan Brelje

Question

Curious to see if anyone has experience with small wood burning stoves for a cabin or hunting shack. I want to stay away from propane and use a wood stove. Shack is small, 14X15'. Any recomendations of brand, size, etc.

We used a 30 gal drum heater in our small log cabin hunting shack for about 20 years. You can get the kits to make them at some of the stores. Just keep the young guys away from starting fires with all kindling wood! crazy She'll glow red hot for a while! madgrin

We have one of the Menards specials that came with our place. It does a great job heating our 24x24 A-frame. If you do some internet research, you'll see approximately the size that given stoves will heat. Of course, it will also depend greatly on the insulation (or lack thereof) at your shack.
