I need to get a new point and shoot for my tacklebox. Most have a 3X optical zoom. Is their any benefit or negative to a 10X or higher? Most of my shots would be from within the boat taking a pic of my fishing partner but there are times I would like to zoom in on some scenery.

Thoughts? Advice?

I have a 10x zoom on the camera I bought. I like the fact that I can reach out and get a shot. The quality of the zoom pics aren't too bad for a camera that was less than $250.00. For your fish and game pictures you will want to use the widest angle possible. It will sort of magnify whatever is in the center of your picture, namely the game or fish. You can always crop out all the unneccessary stuff at home and be left with a picture of the game and its harvester with a little natural background.
