Garage Sale Season...

Was walking the dog tonight and came across some stuff that was being thrown out, citywide large item pickup is this week. I found (2) 7 foot, Montgomery Ward Hawthorne Surf Cast/Bait Cast Pure Glass Rods. Googling them told me they are from the 40's or 50's. Wooden handles, tough as nails, decent tip response. I'm going to fit them with reels and see if they can't become Monster Flathead Whuppin Sticks.

Anybody have experience with old glass rods?

My first fly rod was an old heavy glass rod. Was a work out to cast. It exploded on me setting the hook on a bass.

They might work, they might explode with the first decent fish. Depends on how lovingly they were cared for. But even the best cared for rod when that old is kinda scary to use. Might look good on the wall as a decoration if you don't use em.
