Gadgetman
So I had my transom on my Lund Pro V replaced a couple of years ago and they put in brass sleeves in the 4 transom pan drain holes. The sleeves are put in the hole and then the ends are compressed/ flanged to seal the hole. that part that has been flanged keeps corroding off and then has to be replaced again...what a pain. I suspect that it is electolysis taking place but cant figure out why. Any ideas? Remedies?
marine_man
I wonder if anyone makes them out of aluminum... that's what I recall using in the past.marine_man
CAMAN
It sounds like you're getting a chemical reaction between the brass and aluminum and the brass is losing. I would call Lund and see what they recommend, but I recall them being made out of either aluminum or stainless, never seen them made of brass before. delcecchi
The corrosion is an electrolysis process caused by dissimilar metals in contact. Copper and Aluminum is bad combination. Problem is worse in salt water or polluted water. What is tray made out of? Aluminum? Then aluminum or stainless would be best, or plastic.
