Anyone ever called TIP?

Called one time in Fairbault on 2 guys that where shooting ducks 1 hour before opening time. We were about 100 yards from them and seeing ducks drop left and right. Called TIP and CO showed up 20min later. He was alone so he asked me to go with him and we went up and he told them to disarm there weapon and I picked up the ducks. They were very cooperative and just said they didn't know. Some people ruin it for a lot of us. Got no reward but the CO gave me 2 ducks out of 8. JACKPOT HAHAHA

Now I failed math but by my calculations (using calculator here) there were give or take 100 or more days of ice that means he could have LEGALLY caught and yes kept 1000 as he is allowed 10 a day 100x10 equals 1000 "I think"

The possession limit is the same as the daily limit. Putting them, or their fillets, in the freezer does not remove them from your possession.

Yes he could have kept 10 crappies a day, but that's a heck of a lot of fish to eat every day.

Sorry mainbutter, didn't see your edit till after I posted... yea, that's a lot of fish lol.

your right according to the regulations however...

eating them does...and if he has family enjoying them it would be very easy to do so if they like fish or if according to the regulations he can also give them away as long as he doesn't exceed the limit for that day. and if he had even 1 licensed angler with him their limit becomes 20 if it was a family with a wife and two kids it is now 40 (if you remember it was a guy he "heard caught like 500+ crappie not sure if he even kept any).

Let's play devil's advocate and make a solution we will all love.

put a quota limit every year on the max a licensed person can catch and have it law that every year a conservation officer has to come into your house and catalog any fish in storage and verify they are not over the limit failure to comply will result in forfeiture of license.

seriously that's like giving somebody a speeding ticket because a 90 year old man "thought he was over the limit" when he drove by his house.

shocked

Just curious, but what is the law on possession limits once the game has been reduced to prepared food? (smoked or pickled)

I looked and not sure on that one either unless you are a licensed fish packer apparently.

VERY interesting question. Another similar question...does commercially purchased walleye count towards your possession limit? Not sure why you'd stock up on bought walleye at the same time as caught walleye, but who knows?

it is going on my phone as a contact right as we speak....did anyone know if you can text tip,,,maybe with a video or image text there is proof instantly with that.

i think that would be a good addition to tip.

picture and video messaging from cellphone networks. walk up take a picture of their bucket full of illegal catch, send it, they have nothing back to go on...even at the minimum if they threw then back it is still culling and they get charged.

If you wanted to go out and buy 100 walleye fillets from a grocery store, who is going to stop you?

I'd rather catch it myself, but it was just an interesting thought that crossed my mind. Wonder if it's ever been an issue.
