Family License Question

Finns

Recommended Posts

Planning a trip to Mn. this summer (from Mo.). On page five of the regs it shows [Angling, Family (one or both parents and children under age 16) $52.50]. Well we are his Grandparents not his parents. Do we qualify for this license when taking our 10 year old grandson or does he need to get his own license if we want to keep three limits?

Clear as mud right? blush

This is from page 7 of the 2010 reg. book.

Nonresidents

• All nonresidents age 16 and older are required to have an appropriate

fishing license while angling. Nonresidents under age 16 do not need a license if the parent or guardian is licensed. Children of an adult who has a Minnesota nonresident family license may possess their own limit of fish.

However, if the adult has an individual license, the child’s fish are included in the adult’s limit. Nonresidents under age 16 may purchase

a nonresident license and possess their own limit of fish.

TCH, This is what the part I was wondering about as he is not technically 'my' child but is my grandchild. Am I nitpicking?? crazy

Sent an email to MNDNR for clarification. Hope to hear something in a day or so.

Thanks for the replies.

I emailed this to the DNR;

Got this reply;

Sorry, but grandparents don’t count as part of the family license. If you want to keep three limits, he will have to purchase a license or if you have the family license or combination husband/wife license you can keep 2 limits for 3 of you fishing. Kevin

Glad you got your answer, almost seems quicker in my opinion to go straight to contacting the DNR when it comes to questions on regulations. Nothing against anybody posting here but the differences between residents and non-residents comes into play and then there is the 10 years ago vs 5 years ago vs last year's regulations against today's regulations.... I just ask the people that enforce the regulations, if they don't know (sometimes I think even they can't keep up) then we are all in trouble wink
