Large Muskie Suggestions

Recommended Posts

I am hoping to fish for some giant Muskie this year and am looking for any suggestions on how to do this. I hope to be fishing on a large clear water lake that is deep and has a ton of bait fish like Ciscos and a healthy population of Lake Trout. I have seen giant Muskie there in the past but they never looked at my lure.

If I can I will be fishing in early July. Any good advise out there?

Buy "Muskies on the Shield" by Richard Pearson. It has a whole section dedicated to classic trout water. I struggled on that type of water for many years, read the book, and last year I saw, and caught more fish than all the other years put together after reading the book. Memorize that book, and you will be good to go. Everything he says in there is true. One thing I learned is to not overlook sheer rock walls and deep reefs. These are where I found the most action.

I will also be fishing clear trout water for muskies this summer the first week of July on a nearby lake. Good luck, and lets hope for good weather!!

Couldn't have said it better myself...Muskies on the Shield is an incredible book that's worth its weight in gold.

Hiddenbay,

Garret and NoWiser are dead on, go buy the book by Richard pearson - chapter #3 is a valuable tool in the world of musky fishing on trout lakes. Richard stayed at 1 of my camps a few times and with the few days of Q+A with him along with his book, I gained more muskie knowledge in 10 days than I would have my entire career, trying to figure out muskie water on my own.

Good Luck.

That was the first thing I thought of too... muskies on the shield. I was fortunate enough to talk to Richard on the phone about a month ago. He is full of good information and very willing to help. Just a great guy. That chapter on trout water lakes will pay dividends.

Good Luck!

Fish Head,

Do you know if Richard has fished either Pipestone or the Upper and Lower Manitou? I have read his book and would enjoy talking to this guy. A friend on mine also talks with Peta Mana (sp).
