Fighting Sioux Stick

Recommended Posts

Last fall I unfortunately broke my original Sioux hockey themed rod. So I built this replacement, although this time it's a crappie rod, not a bass topwater rod. Stay tuned for that build, I've got a neat idea that I'm working on.

This was built on a Batson RDR70L from Bill and Al at Midwest Rod and Reel. I created the reel seat with stainless skeleton reel seats surrounding an acrylic white pearl pen blank that I turned. I also turned the winding check from the same pen blank. The guides are Batson size 3 micros using the 27X method with NGC and Forhan locking wraps. The walnut split grips are from my uncles farm up near the home of the Fighting Sioux.

I really wanted the graphics to look like ice so after a little trial and error I achieved the affect by using an under wrap of white thread with one light coat of CP followed by the decals and a couple coats of epoxy. The epoxy penetrated just enough to give the appearance of ice.
