home security systems

Looking for some opinions of some DIYers or contractors that have experience with home security -

I was able to pre-wire my home during the construction phase with recessed contacts (didn't like the idea of wireless and wanted to keep the magnets out of vision). It is time for me to select the brain to handle it all and get it all hooked up.

Does anyone have any experience with the honeywell/ademco vista 21ip? I like the thought of ethernet integration, but am wondering if you need to pay a service fee for alarmnet (I haven't been able to confirm this through countless google searches) to utilize it and set up a home server. I have some x10 devices hooked up and I plan on integrating them with the system as well.

It looks like you can get a lot more functionality out of an Elk or similar system, but I like the $200 price tag of a honeywell compared to the $600+ of an Elk system.

Not sure how many automation/security geeks there are like me in the community.. figured I'd throw a feeler post out there before I make the purchase though!

Haha you guys are killing me here!

I went ahead with the ademco vista 20p.

I guess it is a bit redundant with the different firearms and the soon to be big black woofing machine (lab) that are already in the household smile
