anyone been out in WI yet this year? I want to head out this weekend but am concerned about water clarity.

I'll probably still go anyway and post a report, just wondering if I am going to be casting in chocolate milk or not

thanks

West central streams were clear yesterday at 3pm. Checked a few out again today and there is maybe 2 inches of clarity and they are really staring to flow. I imagine by opener they will be dirty and high just like every early season opener.

Here's the USGS link showing realtime stream conditions. It doesn't show all of the smaller trout streams, but it does provide links to the larger streams in an area. Those links should give you an idea of how much rain and/or runoff is occuring in most streams in the area.

made it out Sunday and water clarity was actually pretty good, slightly stained if at all. spent the whole day fishing a scud and a friend with me had some success on small midges as well.

The brookies had a very vibrant coloring - not sure if it's the time of year or the fact that I have been out of streams too long over the winter

Hey I like the new look of the board, especially the colors. I just got back from southwestern WI and fishing was very good. Water clarity was excellent. What has been melting mainly going into the ground, especially when we have been having cold nights below freezing. Last week it got down to 20 every night.

If you have the time to fish, do it now. I'm looking at western WI forecast and it shows overnight lows of mid 30s (above freezing) all the way through Saturday night. I'm thinking chocolate milk in bigger systems by this weekend?

Also for western WI I mainly look at the Kinni.

Kinni gague

If she is above 10 then it gets unfishable, at least lower ends of rivers. Head to smaller streams.

This weekend water was cold enough that trout were somewhat lethargic. We put in our time to get nice big fish. Using spinners a slow retrieve was critical.

Streams good enough to fish eh? Saw Kiini gage back at 10. Looks like streams fishable again very soon.

Nice catch, especially the first photo. No waders needed huh? I like your style. Get out there and fish!

Hey guy's very nice fish you have been getting into. We still have ice on all our lakes but the rivers are running very high and muddy. The 27th our early catch & release season opens can't wait. You guy's are killing me with all the nice pic's. Got out the little 12 footer out today will have to push out off the ice just to get in the water but it sure beats looking down a 12 inch hole. Again the first one out on the big lake with a boat this year hope I find some willing taker's. Can't wait for the stream fishing to start up here I have dreams of brownie's and steelhead danceing in my head : crazy good luck to all this week and keep the pics a comeing.

With the cold snap fishing was slow for me this morning. I should have waited and fished the afternoon. Home by 11am kind of deal. Caught a couple of little brookies on PM spinners. Nothing big today. Freezing cold 25-29 out this am and braided line was icing up again.

Should be much better fishing for any of you getting out to western WI this week. Water clarity is excellent. Flows dang near back to normal.

I had a friend from Central WI come up, I introduced him to trout fishing this year and he's gone mad! I took him out to a few streams in Western WI and we had a blast to say the least. Lots of fish caught and lots of lost fish. All in all it was a great way to end the catch and release season! I can't wait til 2011 as I love fishing the C&R season!!!!!

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
