Here we go, this anti gun bill is for real and in Minnesota now!

Recommended Posts

This one is on the table here right now and for real, please contact your legislators and oppose these types of bills. This bill proposes to require all firearm transactions at gun shows to go through a FFL holder. While seeming innocent enough, it will for the most part put private dealers out of the gun show trade, as many FFL holders, including myself, charge a fee to tranfer firearms. Its not cheap to obtain one in this day and age and it is after all a business providing a service. This Rep. Paymar has a long history of opposing firearms and sportmen in our state, lets send him a message and voice our opposition to his views in a state with a strong heritage of outdoor sports, including hunting and shooting. And remember, the ultimate message is to cast a vote for those that support what we believe in. Here is the info from the NRA-ILA.

Gun Shows in Minnesota Under Attack!

Anti-gun State Representative Michael Paymar (DFL-64B) and State Senator Scott Dibble (DFL-60) have once again introduced legislation that would severely regulate the sale of firearms at gun shows.

House File 2960 and Senate File 2659 would force private sales at gun shows to go through background checks. Gun prohibitionists, such as State Representative Paymar, falsely claim that a large number of criminals get their guns from gun shows; however, the most recent federal study on gun shows put the figure at only 0.7 percent. This effort is a stepping stone for gun control advocates seeking to ban all private sales, even among family and friends.

Thanks for the heads up. I have contacted the people in my area.

We all need to get the ball rolling on this one as its just the start for more.

If our voices are not heard, they will believe we simply do not care.

Just another example why both my wife and I are members of the NRA.

Ccall or e-mail now.

They have talked about doing this dozens of times.

The key phrase in the "Alert" is Once again they have introduced.

Check the status of the bill on the Legislature HSOforum and you will see it is buried in some sub committee and will never see the light of day.

The "Alert" is another ploy by the NRA to get more donations.

Checks on all buyers at gun shows

rejected

Last update: March 10, 2010 - 8:51 PM

A proposal to require background checks on

all persons buying firearms at gun shows in

Minnesota failed to clear its first hurdle

Wednesday before a House committee.

The House Crime Victims and Criminal

Records panel defeated the proposal 5-3,

leaving its future in doubt. But Rep. Michael

Paymar, DFL-St. Paul, the bill's author, said he

may at some point resurrect the proposal

before this year's legislative session ends.

"It's not over [at the Legislature] until, you

know, the gavel comes down in May," he said.

The legislation, favored by anti-gun groups,

aimed to close what supporters said was a

legal loophole that allowed persons attending

a gun show to sell a gun without requiring

the buyer to undergo a background check.

While many gun dealers at gun shows are

licensed and required to make sure

background checks are conducted, many

gun sales take place without background

checks, Paymar said.

But gun-rights groups said Paymar and

others had not been able to show that guns

bought at gun shows without background

checks were a significant factor in crimes.

"Like I said it is not going to happen."

famous last words? I hope you are right.

All it takes is a co-sponsor and majority on a committee and these bills head to the floor. A bill like this would most likely not stand on its own, but be attached to another more popular bill. When your livelyhood is in the firearms industry the never ending proposals get old quick, but if the people, NRA or not, speak up these laws that criminals don't abide by in the first place get passed. If you are a member of the NRA you would recieve the NRA-ILA updates that put legislative info out, of course with their best interest in mind, there was never a request for money, just a request to let the people we have sent to represent us know how we feel. Do I think this is a bad bill in thoery, no way, but in practice, yes. Private sales at gun shows are a significant source of income for many of the vendors there, as well as the charitible giving that is usually occuring somewhere during the show. Most licensed dealers aren't going to keep shows going because there is little sense in gathering with your competition only to be undersold or cut into your operating margins, especially in this economic state. The other thing that everyone keeps saying is "paranoid" is that once someone or a group gets something passed, it emboldens them to see how much more they can get. This works both ways, the NRA wins one, they push for everything they can get, the anti's win one, same thing, its typical politics. I'm still not sure why guns are such a polarizing topic when the people using them unlawfully with little consequence is the real problem.

Do you know why its not going to happen RRR? It is because groups like the NRA and its many millions of members and gun owners like SmilinBob, Harvey Lee and others remain vigilant and let the elected representatives know that we take our RIGHT to guns very seriously. You can't just keep sticking your head in the sand and expect others to take care of it for you. It is a naive and foolish practice.

You couldn't be more wrong.

The gun show loophole as the Liberal Gun Grabbers describe is a myth.

You cannot go to a gun show and by a gun from a FFL without a NICS check being run.

You can go to a gun show and purchase a guy from another person via a Face to Face private transaction, you do this at your own risk though.

As Type 07 FFL Class 2 SOT I get tons of propaganda from the NRA.

If the NRA spent less money on junk mail and more time doing their job things would be a lot different.

Do you even know what percentage of money raised by the NRA is used for direct lobbying efforts?

This is one of the main reason both my wife and I belong to the NRA.

I also e-mail and call all of my reps when these type bills surface. One cannot wait for others to or these bills will slip by.

One has to keep on them at all times.

If we were to all sit back and continue to say, it won't happen, you may get suprised.

One can say what they want about the NRA but, who else is fighting as much as the NRA for our gun rights?? They could double my membership and I will continue to pay the dues plus.
