St_Croix_Banks
Does anyone have a Manta collecting dust in the box they'd like to sell? I've heard good things about this bait and I'd like to throw one next spring.
cbrooks
Check out the Sea cow from tackle indeustries or Turmoilx from bikini bait company. They look identical to a Manta.
50inchpig
i've got a smaller shallow version in red/white that's been used a little bit (caught a fish on it) and a new chartruese with orange back, also small and shallow that i could probably part with.would sell or trade perhaps for some kind of prop style topwater, would also trade them for an outing on the river this year sometime, i moved to stillwater last year and haven't been on the croix much. St_Croix_Banks
Really was hoping to find the Hang 10" version of Manta. But 50", I'd bring you out on the Croix this year. I'm no guide but I know a few spots. What's your normal Musky water?
St_Croix_Banks
Sea Cow looks pretty close to Manta...
AWH
The Sea Calf and Sea Cow have a narrower swing to them, which actually helps your hook up ratio. There's a You Tube video of each out there. Just do a search for "sea cow musky lure" on You Tube and it'll come up for you. The Manta is still being made. But about the only way to find them is to buy direct from the company.Aaron
50inchpig
I like these north metro lakes close to home - we can go trip for trip if you don't mind getting a MN license! Sorry can't help you with the Hang 10".
Brett Waldera
The seacow and seacalf look like a manta but the action is quite a bit different as Aaron mentioned. Both are good baits.
RK
Hiya - I have a vivid memory of more than one fish blasting Brett's Manta one day, and Brett not hooking any of them...(Hey Brett - drop me an email. kimm dot rob at gmail dot com.)The sea cow and sea calf are actually pretty neat baits - and easy to get your hands on. St_Croix_Banks
Brett/RK-Do you prefer the Sea Cow to the Manta or do you use in different situations. The video on the Manta looks like it patterns very well. Is the Sea Cow more erratic? Do they both work at about the same depth?
Brett Waldera
I guess I tend to suffer from "premature release" from time to time..hahaI am not a big fan of the Manta to be honest...great bait...but as Rob eluded to can be a terrible hooker. I do not have as much time on the water with the Sea Calf, but it is not a clone of the Manta in terms of action. If you are buying one to replace a Manta, you may be disapointed...I would rather have more Sea Calfs though...as mentioned they tend to track straighter and hook better. Plus James is a great guy.Brett Waldera
Grunt L
The belly on the Sea Cow and Calfs are shaped like a boat hull. This is so the hooks can't "hug" up against the belly. They are also slightly oversized for the diameter of the body of the bait. This allows a hook point to always be ready for a good hookup. Tighter action than a Manta as the weight is closer to the center of the lure so it swings just a little faster. Also has the 3D holographic eyes that bug out of the bait just a little, through wire, and triple tempered stainless steel rings for the hooks.
