Primos Power Crystal problems

I just picked up a new call, the Primos Power Crystal. I have roughed it up with the sand paper (in one direction), but I just cant get the high pitched sound and it takes alot of pressure to get a decent sound. After watching videos, it doesnt look like it should take that much force. I am wondering if the striker is just bad, and I need to buy a different one or if I just need to sand the glass more.

Anyone have any suggestions or experience this problem?

What grit sandpaper did you use? Maybe too fine or too coarse? Try a 3M Scotch Bright pad.

Have you used other slate calls? Just curious if you've had any experience with that type of call. How you hold the striker seems to have more with how the call sounds than anything. Sometimes the striker that comes with a call just doesn't match the call itself very well. Try other strikers if you have them. Sometimes the tip of striker itself needs to be conditioned as well. Wood, acrylic, carbon all will sound different and usually one shines over all others on a certain call.

Each call has it's own "sweet spot" that will be the best sounding spot on that call. Find it.

Don't give up yet, the Power Crystal is a great call, I think you just need to hit on the correct striker and a bit more practice with that particular call.

Don is right on with trying other strikers. I have a couple calls that work with certain wood or carbon. I have glass and synthetic calls and they don't necessarily make the best sound with the striker provided with the call.

Definitely make sure you have an edge on the striker. Some may work better if there's a defined edge that allows the tip to achieve the right "skip" over the roughed up surface. A sharp edge on the striker also requires less force to make them work well.

i have only tried the hardwood striker that came with it so i will be getting a carbon for sure, and trying that. Also, i used just the 50 grit and tried it and it is working better, so I must not have roughed it up enough. I guess I didnt realize just how hard i need too sand it. Thanks for the tips, i will keep working on it.

I also tried the defined edge and that made it easier too!

Boy my wife is loving this!!!! grin
