i ripped 4 of the 18 teeth of of my top drive sprocket.. the bottom one is completly fine. should i replace the expensice chain also??

Absolutely! More times than not the gear wear is caused by incorrect chain tension, due to stretch and/or adjustment and contaminated lube. Add to that 18 teeth is pretty small on top so the torque is put on many less teeth than the bottom gear.

If you never have had the misfortune of having a chain break, you'll learn quickly its a day wrecker. It will either seize up and lock the track or burst the chain case and you'll have no brakes. NO GOOD will come from either!

I just replaced mine at 10,000 miles and put on a new upper gear because of wear pattern, but the lower showed barely any wear. Chain, gear and lube were under 100 bucks.
