Jig spinning problem

Ok, so I'm doing some sight fishing today for big finicky gills. I'm using a 14 Diamond jig tipped with a spike. I started to get a lot of spin all of a sudden and wasn't really able to get it under control. I redid my bait, nothing, added a barrel swivel about 18in high, helped somewhat. I'm not sure if it was just my 1# test line or what, but it wasn't helping with the natural presentation. I remember reading about this before but can't remember what the solutions were. Any tips be appreciated. Thanks

I did still manage to land 12 gills over 9 inches, but a few more were laughing at the wacky jig.

Try stretching your line it’s a pain but it helps a little. I know some people have been going to fly reels or the round plastic reels to avoid jig spin. I guess you get zero jig spin when you use a fly reel, there are a few draw back like the amount of line retrieve per turn is less than a spinning reel but the people that use them just rave about it especially in a shallow sight fishing situation.

Try letting it unwind before putting it down the hole. Also if you bait doesnt hang straight, it will spin as you jig and then unwind at the worst time. I really like the fly reel trick, thats what I am gonna try also.

As the first response said stretch it out by pinching the line between your fingers and running them up the line. I have the same problem all the time and occasionally have to do this to get rid of the spin.
