I was recently reading an article on this subject. The author was saying that lifeless cranks like the Rat L Trap or Rattlin Rapala can help you cover water quickly and find aggressive walleyes. What are other people's experience with them. is there a certain season situation that they work better.

Thanks! only a few months till open water.

All the time! I think I use those 50 percent of the time. When we troll shallow water (3 to 7 feet) we flat line them. We've used them with leadcore alittle but more we pull them behind bottom bouncers alot, Lake of the woods was awesome for that. When we pulled them behind the bottom bouncers we used a shorter leader around 3 feet otherwise it starts to drag some. Like you said for aggressive walleyes we do move alot faster with them around 2.0 to 3.0 MPH. We also pump the rod some to give it even more action. Good luck, I would try it out this summer, its fun and a good way to cover some water.

I've had some good success with the blue/chrome rattle trap. Casting on a clear lake right after sunset on a summer full moon. I have to really sneak up on them to make it work though. About 10-20 casts and the bite shuts down for me.

I had a friend who was with me in October pulling the same bait right in the prop wash. I thought he was crazy, but it worked well for him.

I've caught a ton of eyes the last three years on lipless cranks. Love em. Shallow water fish in the 2'-5' range and thru weeds is where I like them the best. My biggest eye last year (28") came from two feet of water mid-day.

I really like the Bone color the best but I always "color" or stain the rear half of the crank either chartruese or orange. Great lures that can be fished so many different ways.
