Lots of places to stay, check out the Ashland and Washburn chamber websites. Depends on what you are looking for and your budget. Outdoor Allure has a cabin that you can rent right at the bait shop just south of Washburn.

1/29 Report from Outdoor Allure in Washburn (you need to sign in to view their reports)

Anglers are starting to push out to the margins of good ice. BE CAREFUL. Out towards Long Island, past Houghton Point is very close to the open water in the South Chennel, which goes all the way up to Bayfield. I cannot reccommend going out this far, but there are a few people on it. Inside the bay, inside a line from Houghton Point to Long Island there is anywhere from 8 inches of ice, to up over a foot back towards town. There are some thinner spots, and some pressure cracks are moving around, so be careful out there. Ice safety is your first priority. Bayview beach and north is frozen, but not quite locked in tight. Folks have been walking off Bodins, the Sioux, and Onion river areas.

Up towards Bayfield is open water. The Ferry is still running. There have been a few going out off Buffalo Bay nearshore for Splake , Browns, and Whitefish, and some mid-depth Laker and Whitefish action. much thinner ice up here, 5-8 inched with horrendous pressure cracks. 4 wheelers have been getting into trouble crossing them, be prepared, and don't push your luck. Guys have gotten wet, and stuck machines for hours. We don't want anything worse happening. The south end of Basswood, up to about the midway point of Basswood is the only areas I have heard the ice was OK. There is NEW ice out to Hermit, it just formed last night, and while it looks good, it was about an inch this afternoon when a reliable source checked it.
