Thoughts on Mounting Perch?

There has been a little discussion on the LOW forum, but jjsut wonder what size perch would be a good size to mount. Heading to LOW next week and hope to find a mountable jumbo --

A buddy said 15 inches -- that seems unreal in size? How about you guys? 13 inches?

Thanks

You have to remember that your talking about a panfish. They grow slow and a 13 is respectable but I think if you get on a good bite that you want to hold out for 14+. I just cleaned out my freezer and I had forgotten about a perch that I caught about 5 years ago on april 1st and I filleted it. I measusured it before I threw it away and it was 14. Man was that one thick top to bottom.

Good Luck on your trip! Hopefully you get a 15 right off the bat.

Depends on your cash flow! laugh I have seen some nice stringer mounts where they are all about 14" or so. Though I'd expect you are thinking of a single mount I would agree 15" is a serious perch.

i guess its all in the eyes of the beholder...if you are in an area that does not produce huge perch one might settle for mounting one in the 12.5-13.5 range which is a jumbo for sure. i personally wouldn't mount one under 14.5" but thats only because i have lakes nearby that have lots of nice fish in them and 14" perch are an every year deal. i have only one perch on the wall myself but am looking have a school of 14.5"+ jumbos someday on the wall

i have a perch on the wall(only thing, so FAR!)

i caught it on our local lake and it was 13.5 or 14.5 i think so BIG for our lake so i thought i would mount it.

For me i guess its all personal pref. like in my case even for the lake you are on also.

If you wait for a 15 incher you may never have a perch on the wall I have a 14.75 and a 15 incher that i caught on mille lacs on the same day and they were 1 pound 14 oz and 1 pound 15oz to me that is a trophy perch but to you it maybe a 13 incher that hits the 1 pound 4 oz. Good luck on the lake of the woods for your big perch.

Down here in SW MN if you catch one 12 or 13 it is a jumbo. I finally caught a 14" and decided to mount it four years ago. Then the next year we ahd a lake down here that was putting out perch up to 16". Well would'nt you know it, I end up with a 14.5", 14.75" and then 2 at 15". Told the wife that I had 4 more to mount and well you can figure how that went over. It is up to you, so if you think a 13" is mountable do it.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
