Mag 2000 quicker starting suggestions?

mr_jman

Question

I have a Mag 2000 probably a 2007 or 08 model. It runs great but it always takes about 10 pulls or so the first time I start it for the day. It usually goes on only 2 or 3 after that, but I was wondering if it should be starting sooner or if I should be doing something different.

I use the little Strikemaster oil bottles, and usually just have the 87 octane gas with a little seafoam mixed. I give it a full choke for about 2 pulls than open it all the way up to start it. I may give it a little gas as well. If it doesnt start then I choke again and repeat.

Is it common for them to take a little while to start or should it be firing up sooner? Does it have something to do with the cold? If I keep it inside the house overnight where its warm it usually starts a little better then when I leave it in the truck or in the shed. (just some thoughts)

Amsoil gets hailed because it works; simple as that. Amsoil Converts will always push it after they switch over from overpriced, smelly, and messy 2 stroke oil. I for one don't miss the teary eyes, zebra stripes, oil drips on the floor, and stank of cruddy 2 stroke oil exhaust. I will give you a 1/4 tank of Amsoil Sabre Pro mixed gas at 80-1 and you can see/smell for yourself!

BTW, the original poster's auger doesn't have a primer bulb, as do many of the SM auger users including me. I'll try the full-throttle start trick, though. I suppose that would get more gas to the cylinder faster; as close to a primer as I'll get!

I'll have to try the full throttle deal as well. I am also going to upgrade the plug and see if that helps my Lazer Express. (It takes me 10-20 pulls as well, even after a tuneup and I use Amsoil )

As I mentioned above my SM starts on the third pull, I don't even have to hold the throttle, just put the choke on full BUT it will kill if I don't quickly pull the choke off. Then I start running the throttle, lift up and warm up for about 10 seconds, and start drilling. 10-20 pulls means you have a problem in my book, time for a trip to the small engine shop.
