With my Perch Sweetheart i use everything from med. size rattling spoons to tiny marmooskas. Get a reel with an extra spool. Spool 8lb on one and 3lb on the other. You wont need another rod.

Problem is Thorne Brother rods are tribbles. Buy one, end up with a closet full in a few years.

Fred Bear did you call St.Croix customer service about the tip breaking? I called them to buy a tip kit for an open water Premier. They looked up my registration on it and sent it out. No questions, no charge not even for shipping. I've always had amazing customer service from St. Croix.

Thanks for the tip, I'll have to look into that. I checked out my warranty on it and it says 1 year but I was still planning on sending them in just haven't got around to it yet.

For perch and crappies the 28" UL Premiere is awesome, I love the feel and action of it. I have caught a 5 and 6 lb walleye on it this year and a few bigger pike, but you can tell it's not made to handle fish like that. I'm sure the L or ML blanks would be awesome for eyes.

st croix ledgend rods are nice but in cold weather the spring freezes up. I do a lot of hole hopping so it hasnt got as much use this year as some of my other rods.

I bet you would be happy with the JM Meatstick. But have never used a Thorne Bros rod before. St croix are good but i would not turn to a spring bobber for a walleye rod as first option.

As far as reels, I like the Abu Cardinal C400UI. Smooth, good drag, small, and a good value.

In my first post on this thread I wrote about how I really like the SC Premiere rods, but broke two of the UL ones this year.

Well last week I got both of those rods replaced by St. Croix for a $10 shipping charge. Both rods were out of warranty and they knew that due to the serial number but still replaced them. One was also missing the piece that broke off of it.

Very quick turn around and good customer service if you ask me.
