LP Mode on Vex flashers.

Agronomist_at_IA

Question

I bought the FL 20 50th eddition vex this weekend. I was checking everything over to make sure I understand how to operate it right & learn how I should operate it in the different modes.

Somebody please chime in here to help me understand the LP mode.

Since the Flasher has a LP mode for 20' of water or less, it looks like LP mode should be used when fishing shallow water basicly anything 20' or less. Now there is also a non LP mode for 20' of water. When does one use the LP mode and when should one use the normal power mode on the sonar if fishing in 20' of water or less? I'm guessing that jig size, and deberis in the water would dictate the setting you'd use, and you'd pick the LP/non LP mode based on the target line seperation and clarity of the flasher lines.

The other was the Dual Cone. I'm guessing that the Narrow cone is used for fishing in a shack with someone else so you don't pick up there jig on you're screen, or when fishing in deeper water so that your not covering too large an area on the bottom. The wide cone would be for fishing in shallower water when by yourself, so that the footprint you're showing on the bottom is of decent size.

So, am I on the right track understanding these things or not?

Your pretty much on the right track. The low power is best when fishing in weeds or water with much debris in it.

The narrow beam is good for deep water, when fishing next to someone if you don't want to see their lure and I especially like a narrow beam for fishing breaks when you want to see all the way to bottom like when walleye fishing. If you are on a steep break the bottom you see will be the closest part of the break and you wont see below that. This has much less impact with a narrow beam like a 9 degree.

each time you use it, dip the transducer head in water, then rub the bottom real good. takes the grime and film off the head. You get a better signal response too. Sit your unit ( if your putting it on the ice..) on a piece of plywood cut to size... will greatly increase your battery life. I love my fl-20, you will too.

Thanks I figured that was how they worked but not 100% sure. Do you have any tips or tricks when using the flasher.

Watch the 2 free DVD's Vexilar included in the package.

They are very helpful, and include operational manuals and user tips by pro-staff members in the field.
