pikestabber
The mid winter lull, which I don't believe is hear quite yet, is approaching soon. What do you guys do that has prolonged your spearing season in winters past? Downsize decoys, slower presentations?
browning_gold
I do not change anything.. One thing I notice is that my spearing is usually at its best towards the end of january and beginning of february...
merkman
February is a very good time for darkhouse spearing. As it gets later in the season I do notice more pike cruzing just under the ice. Right now I have been finding them wanting to hug the bottom.I put the spinner right near the bottom and have had better luck latley. thedeadsea
I chase other species until early February when the females are getting hungry, but then usually tip up fish them anyhow because the ice gets so darn thick.
merkman
the ice gets so darn thick. True dat!!
browning_gold
What I like to do when the ice gets thick is take my ice saw and in the front of the hole and the two sides I cut about a 45 degree angle away from the hole so I have a much wider viewing range! fisherking01
I put a 34 inch bar on the chainsaw for ice fishing, no oil, and it's fast!!
Huey
my spearing is usually at its best towards the end of january and beginning of february... Do you guys change location later in the winter? Move to deeper water or anything like that?I was just out panfishing and my buddy got a nice pike in 30' of water.

Some do.I am in 12 FOW now.In a couple weeks I am going to move to the deepest part of the lake. Aprox 28 FOW.Once things start warming up (late late season) the "bugs" come out on the mud flats, the little fish like to eat them, and we all know what likes to eat the little fish. Gordie
yep heuy some of my best spearing comes from the deepest parts of the lake during late season just skirting the outside of the panfish areas. You know where all the fishhouses are at . on smaller shallower lakes I will look for the deeper parts of the lake if its 12 fow then I look for the sand or mud flats nearest to the deepest water in the area. and start my search for pike there. its like merk said we all know what likes to eat little fish...
