Concrete forms to sleeve to ice

I get 5 gallon buckets from a bakery and cut the bottoms off of them. It works well and if you can get the lids with them it's even better. Just put the lids on when you leave the house and you'd be surprised how well it insulates it. This past weekend it was -30 air temp overnight and I only had about a half inch of ice to chip off the next afternoon.

I have used these tube's for sleeves before and have gotten about 1 season out of them. what i did is cut the tube about 4-5 inches higher then the floor, keeps things from finding your holes, cut in some handles so i could remove them when done, then i bought a few cans of undercoating spray paint stuff and sprayed the mess out of them.this keept most of the water outta the tubes but they did start to break down at the end of ice season.

5 gallon pails arent long enough. I have a pile of those around. I need to go down about 18". The pails I have are about 16". I think ill try the tubes and try sealing the end and see what happens. I gutted a 1950s camper, one of the round ones, and turned it into a fish house. Its pretty cool, wide white wall tires and everything, but I'm getting to the end and so is the money so if they only get me through one year thats ok. Next year I think I'll remove a couple leafs from the the springs to drop it a few inches. Thanks for the replies.
