Supplemental Wheelhouse Heater

Recommended Posts

Does anyone run any type of electric heater in their wheelhouse in case you run out of propane? I have an EU2000 Honda for a generator. My wheelhouse only has 2 20# tanks and I would like to be prepared.

I use a 1500W electric heater with a fan as my main heat when I have my 2300W. generator running and use the propane supplemental. Its makes your propane last longer. I have a 10’X 20’ that is insulated very well and the 1500W keeps it plenty warm most times except for last weekend when the propane came on a few times to make up some heat. 1500W electric is the largest you can run on 15A plug that your generator most likely has. Just set the electric heat thermostat higher and your propane lower. Don’t be too concerned about how efficient they say the heater is. All electric is 100%. Depending on what size your generator is and what else you have running on your generator size will determine how large of a heater you can run. You can figure roughly 10-15 watts per square foot to size your heater.
