Non-Resident kids fishing

I take a friend of mines two kids fishing with me they are 7 and 9. I am a MN resident they are not. Does anyone know if it is legal for them to fish two lines each and each take their own limit of fish? I often take them fishing and we put 6 tip up's out.

Thanks

Straight from the 2009 DNR handbook online:

Nonresidents

• All nonresidents age 16 and older are required to have an appropriate fishing license while angling. Nonresidents under age 16 do not need a license if the parent or guardian is licensed. Children of an adult who has a Minnesota nonresident family license may possess their own limit of fish. However, if the adult has an individual license, the child’s fish

are included in the adult’s limit. Nonresidents under age 16 may purchase a nonresident license and possess their own limit of fish.

The way I read that is if one of their parents have a license they would be covered but their fish goes against the parents limit. Also I would think the parent would need to be present while they are fishing.

No adult license, then they need their own.

However you could always just say they are your kids =)

special k,

saying that they are his kids would get him in more trouble then them for not having a license of their own. My suggestion would be to have their parents get a non resident family license($52.50) or for them to get the minnesota non resident youth fishing license that is only $17.00 per kid ($34.00 for the 2 of them). see page 5 of the regs under nonresident licenses
