Licensing fish house ?

FISH AWAY

Recommended Posts

I have a fish house on wheels and was thinkig about putting it out for the first time in about 4 yrs. I see they now sell a 3 year shelter license. My ? is do I have to register the fish house and get a trailer license? It is not used as a trailer in any way, it is just a basic fish house, you haul it to the lake take the wheels off and fish. When done put wheels back on and pull it home.

There are 2 issues and you may be confusing them, there is a shelter licence that needs to be on the house if it is left on the ice unatended. Just like a perm. house. Then you need to license the trailer, If it is under 3500# you can get a perm. license that goes on the hitch just like a boat trailer. If it's over 3500 you will need a license plate that goes on the back, like an RV

Sorry my bad, so is it your understanding that the weight rating is just the trailer or the trailer and the cargo. If I have a 2000 lb fishhouse but can fit 2 4wheelers in it would it have to be licensed as a 3000lb trailer. My brother and I have had a running discusion (arguement) about it.

Thanks Pat, thats what I thought. My house has a single door in the back and when I licensed it I got a lifetime license that goes on the hitch, just like a boat trailer. My brothers house has double doors and can fit the wheelers. He got a license plate like an rv. I think we are both legal, the houses are the same with the exeption of the doors.
