Big Trout Lake-Crow Wing County-Lake Trout???

I'm a newbie and just moved to the Pequot Lakes area and saw that this lake has been stocked with Lake Trout since 1979. I have always wanted to chase these bad boys and was wondering if anyones ever fished it and if it be worth giving it a go. Not looking for specific spots, just wondering if anyone has had success here. Thanks in advance.

BigRup, welcome to HSO/FM. Great to have you here.

I've fished lake trout a lot, though never Big Trout in Crow Wing County. So I can't help you on specifics there. But the DNR has a Lake Finder feature on their Web site with maps and tons of good stocking and surveying information.

You'll find Big Trout here.

Hope you get some other guys chiming in on that lake. Good luck! And if you want to know more about inland laker ice gear and tactics, just click here. You'll see that thread was started in 2006, so you can ignore a lot of the opener dates you see, but the thread is still active today, and there is a lot of experience speaking there. Pour a cup of coffee, because it is a long read.

Good luck!

The walleyes are definitly in there and when you get them to bite its often a dandy! I fish WFC religiously and I can only remember 1 walleye outta Big Trout under 20 inches... It was a 14" outta the weeds bass fishing so I dont even know if it counts! Haha!

Thanks for the info fellas. I knew I came to right place. If I ever have a question its always answered in a couple minutes of searching. Walleye I might have to take you up on that offer. I think I might head out there with my buddy after the Jaycees Tourney. Thanks again.

I fish it every year for eyes and trout and can tell you be ready to put some time in and move around.

Some nice trout can be caught shallow 15-20 fow and most are caught deeper from 30-80 fow. sharp breaks and isolated structure has been best for me. I like useing buckshot spoons and jiggin shads they show up well on the vex in deeper water.

read the mood of the fish carefully will she chase or does your jigging spook the fish.

you can make some mistakes with the little ones but not the big ones usually unless shes really hungry.

good luck maybe I'll see you on the opener.

could be on the sled or truck/
