Polaris Starting Problem

Recommended Posts

Was out fishing last night and had a heck of a time starting my 2005 Polaris Sporstman 500 H.O. , it would turn over just fine, but would not fire. 30 minutes later it finally started. My question is how many spark plugs do they have, and location of them. Still factory plugs. First time ever having trouble starting. Also, can a gas line freeze with these cold temps and wind chill?

May or not be related, but... I've noticed that my Honda will start much better on 87 octane than on the 91 that is recomended. It is a fact that 91 premium will not vaporize as well as 87 in colder temps. If there is water in the gas than yes you can have freezeing issues. Adding sea foam, stabil, etc will help with moisture problems.

I'd put some winter weight oil in there if your not sure what you have in there now. I'd suggest Amsoil 0-40 ATV oil or and equivalent synthetic oil that is fluid in the cold temps. Does the wheeler start and run good in warmer temps?

if the battery is a little weak it will take al the power to turn over and not have enough amps left to produce a hot enough spark. electronic ignition needs a certain amount of aps to fire properly.
