lock out hub question

When not in 4wd... can you keep your manual lock-outs locked in?? I have a ranger with them on and wonder if I can keep them locked for the winter in case I need 4wd, or do you need to unlock them when not using it

I have known guys that would lock them in when we got snow and unlocked them when the snow was gone.

It wont hurt anything, you are just turning a lot of parts for no reason when you are not in 4wd with the hubs locked.

Yup, the only reason you would unlock them is to save gas and wear on the front driveline

mine stay locked when Im in town. i unlock them when i take off for the lake, and lock em back in when i get to the lake.

I used to have manual lockouts and when I suspected I might be driving on icy roads, I locked them in. This was especially handy when driving in town where intersections would be icy. With them locked in it was nothing to reach down and pull the lever into 4H to get going and then once moving disengage it again.
