Strikemaster auger problem

gemNeyeJoe

Question

I have an older strikemaster lazer mag auger. got fresh gas in it today and fired it up for the first time this year. last year had problems with it idling. once started would cut fine but when i stopped it would die. and sometimes would take multiple pulls to get started again.. started it today and fired up good, ran it open for a bit and stopped, idled great! was very happy. Ran it wide open for a while again and it died right when i let off the throttle. then was being stubborn to get started again, got it started and ran good with throttle pressure died again when i let off. I put a new plug in it last year.. any suggestions?!

sounds like it needs a carb cleaning. you may be able to get by with running sea foam with the gas for a few tanks but usually that doesn't completely cure it. if you are gonna take the carb apart you might as well get a carb kit cause there always seems to be at least one gasket that gets murdered in the process.

thanks for the info. adjusted the idle screw a quarter turn and it seemed to idle fine, for a bit. then as the motor got hotter it would die when i let off the gas again. ill tear it apart tomorrow. another question, when not running i pulled the throttle and the spring open the throttle up but when i let off it doesnt go back. is that an issue? or is that just because its not running? not an auger wizz yet so the info is much appreciated!

Check the fuel line and the little elbow on top of the carb. I have an older one too and had to replace the fuel line because of a very small crack. Then this year, the plastic elbow on the carb had a crack, so it was sucking air, a little hot glue and I'm back in business. Mine would also run OK, but under power would die off.

It's suppose to spring back. I had the same problem with mine, just sprayed it down good with carb cleaner (around the butterfly rod top & bottom) worked it back & forth till it loosened up. Didn't look bad but must have had a little residue from the gas in there to gum it up. Runs super now.

i noticed the same thing when i took mine apart last night, i push the throttle down, notice the spring pulling but nothing happening and i would have to push the lever manually for it to open; i'll try cleaning it better
