last night I drove my 97 indy trail out of the garage to load on the trailer and all of the sudden the lights went very dim and I smelled smoke. I shut the motor off and looked under the hood for burnt wires or anything unussual, but didn't see anything. the sled started an idled fine after that, but I didn't have time to take for a test ride. Any ideas?

Right inside the hood on the right side below the pull rope is a little black squire with one wire coming out of it. I can't remember the name of it, but it is some kind of fuse for the lights. I have had that start to go out and the lights did the same thing and it got pretty hot. Check and maybe replace that and see if it helps. wink

thats the voltage regulator, some places sell used ones, dont waste your time or money, spend the money and buy a new one. I bought a used one last year for $18 lasted for 2 days,if I remember a new one is somewhere from $50-75

Voltage regulator, that's right Scott. I had a dealer tell me that it was one of the things that go out on their sleds the most. I keep a spare in my sled now just incase. wink
