Newer fridge/freezer not cold

Less than 2 years ago I bought a standard lower end Fridgidaire fridge with top freezer for the beer fridge and extra freezer storage. It's been a few days since I opened it and last night I find out that it's no longer cold, not freezing or keeping cold at all! Sounds like it's running? Any clue what it may be? Very frustrating, yes it was cheap ($400) but come on, should get a few years out of it! Bought at Lowes and when I google the model #, there are others with the same problem. Hate to spend much on something that isn't worth much and then may breakdown again...argh!

Does it not get cold at all, either section? Or is the freezer kind of working and not the fridge?

Check and see if the back wall of the freezer is all frosted up, looks like snow on the back wall. If it is, it's not self defrosting.

If no cooling at all, check to make sure fans and compressor are running. If fans are and compressor is not, probably a bad relay on the compressor.

Those are a couple things to start with.

can you hear the actual fan in the freezer unit running? you can pull the bottom out of the freezer to access the fan, it is usually what pushes the cold air to the bottom part. also if you can access the compressor you can feel the lines to see if they are hot or cold. also might notice a leak or residue if the compressor leaked. new stuff just does not last like the old. one thing i noticed on our garage frige is that if the coil on the back is touching the wall it will not cool as well as it cannot scrub off the heat as well. good luck

just checked again the the fan runs for sure. The compressor seems to be running because if I touch it, it seems to be vibrating and humming? Again every sounds "normal" It's gotta be some sort of switch or something?

one last this I remember when I discovered this was that the back coils seemed hot...is that normal? It's unplugged now so can't check that again. I do see corrosion on the very bottom of the coil that attaches to everything down below. Not rusted through but is rusty in one spot?

If you are talking about the coil that runs up the whole back of the unit, yes it should be hot. Plug unit back in and let it run for a couple hours. Then pull back off in freezer and see what kind of frost pattern you have on the aluminum coil in there. Should be completely covered in thin layer of frost.
