How much is enough ice for you?

I was going to drag my house out this weekend. Mad dash to finish it when my neighbor called from the lake to tell me there is only 5". Decided to wait till next weekend. I have built an 8 x 10 seven foot tall. 2x4's, 5/8" plywood roof, floor, 1/4" osb walls. Have no idea of the weight.

How much ice do you need to feel warm and fuzzy all over?

3" to walk on, provided it is good clear ice, not white and slushy. 4" for my heavy portable and all my gear...just like the guy above said. A good place to get your shack weighed is at a dump. i am going to assume you will be putting this house on a trailer and pulling it to the lake? You can go to the dump and drive on the scale and have your whole truck weighed and then pull off and unhook the trailer and have the truck weighed...a little simple subtraction and you have your weight...plus the trailer. To pull a rig out like that I would be looking for 14-16" of good clear ice. Best bet is to ask a local resort. To get my truck, big suburban, out there i'm looking for a solid 16"...have fun in your new house!

The lake I'm fishing on is pretty small. I can drop it right on the edge of the ice and drag it out from there. It is just the weight of the house on the ice. Don't want to sink the house or freeze it in. To say it's a lake is embellishing slightly. It's more like a big pond.

[edit] doing some quick math I can be reasonably sure it weighs in at appx: 1100 lbs
