Yes, I just bought my transducer, power cable, & battery with the vexlar housing & cover. I will be using it for the first time saturday, or sunday. So far everything works well. I think the total cost was about $170 for my ice fishing package. The transducer is a hot item, so they are hard to come by. I'll follow up after I use the thing this weekend.

I finally used the HDS5 over the weekend. The thing is very nice. I must admit I like it a lot more than any other flasher/sonar system I've used in the past (Clearwater Classic, FL8, LX-3, & other Lowrance products). The broadband sonar picks up every little detail below and in almost any background color you prefer. I admit I used the flasher very little because the fishfinder page, which shows the history as well as the instant monitoring of sonar is much more interesting. I really couldnt get over how crisp the image was. I can't tell you about interference, since I never had another system near mine. The battery life was 6 hours while I had the brightness on high, but who cares, I just bought another battery. The gps with the lake maps/contours was a real nice tool as well. I am really excited about this unit because it saved me a few hundred dollars, since I can use it either winter ice fishing or summer fishing. My research really paid off for fishing electronics for the next few years. I hope this helps.

I have an HDS5 and have been thinking about setting it up for the ice... any concerns with the LCD in the cold? Sure it is always warm in the house but I would hate to ruin it if I left it in the truck in sub zero temps.

I was looking to upgrade from my FL8 to a 18 or similar Marcum, would I be better served spending the money and setting up my HDS for hardwater?
