fishmounter
Looking to buy a new ice auger what's your preferencence? Lookint at a 10 inch Stikemaster or a 9 or 10 inch Jiffy. I know the Srikemaster is lighter what's the other pro's or con's?
jigginjim
That's almost like asking should I buy a Ford or Chevy? why are you looking at a 10" auger? Are fishing pike alot? I have been using an 8.25 auger for over 20+ years. If I feel the need for a much bigger hole I'll cut 2 next to each other, have chisel out the middle. fishersofmen
I use a Strikemaster 8.25. Thing is older than dirt, have never done any maintanence to it and just keeps on running.
gonefishingagain
If I were to buy a new auger it would be a jiffy. I have a jiffy 2hp that is at least 20 years old and the thing works like a champ. It has cut MANY holes! And 3 years ago I decided to buy a 2hp Strikemaster Lazer mag express, and I have had nothing but trouble with it. The handle is plastic, and it has cracked twice, and each time it costs about $40.00 to replace it. I also dont like how it runs. Each winter I have to take the carb apart and clean it out. And I do use stable after the ice fishing season is over. Just my two cense......
The Grebe
I have a StrikeMaster...actually, 3 of em and they will get the job done....all three are standard blades, no lazer. I've cut a bizillion holes with one of em, use one of the older ones for digging post holes and then I have a back up just in case. They are pretty lightweight, considering. On the other hand, my son has a Jiffy and that thing is heavy, but really rips through the ice. I don't think I would try to dig a post hole with that thing! Probably get my hands twisted off!A little more work with the StrikeMaster, but lighter and less expensive...it works for me.
