It does make it easier to for someone to capture data on your network. That includes password and other data. There are people there that drive around looking for unsecured wireless will try to access PCs and any data that is available. It is also used for launching virues/spyware and attacks on remote networks.

I am of the mind that if someone can park on the street and get to your wireless it should be secured.

Look at it this way. Would it be okay for someone to come into your unlock house, sat down and watch your TV? Or maybe you left your keys in the car and everyone that came by took it out for a spin. Connected a garden hose to from your house and watered their own lawn? Or maybe even a stranger coming in and sitting down with you at your dinner table and eating your food. This is not the same thing as peeking at someone's newspaper.

Latching onto a wifi network that is unsecured and not public is wrong and breaking the law. And for those who arent securing their networks its even possible that if someone who leeched onto your unprotected network can end up causing you a big headache. Not only can they max your bandwidth without you not knowing, but possibly use it for remote illegal activities landing you fines and in jail.

May as well hand over your paychecks too while your at it. If you dont know how to secure your own wifi, sit down and learn. Most routers today come with step by step setup manuals or even software that installs and configures all the setting automatically for you. And if you cant set it up then call tech support or pay the geek squad to come do it. It'll cost your a fee but well worth it.
