sticknstring
Hey guys. I'm curious as to what I could to up my chances at taking one of these wily critters with my bow. We used to have red fox in the woods and I'd get a shot almost every year but they've seemed to vanish. I put a camera up on a deer carcass and had some 'yotes coming in from 12-3am this year. I'd really like to get a pelt for the wall but hoping one comes wandering by while deer hunting isn't getting it done. Would being on stand during a full moon in the snow over some kind of bait be worthwhile? I've tried squeaking on the back of my hand while seeing them off in the distance with no results and that's the extent of calling knowledge. Please, give me some pointers if you would. Thanks! Neighbor_guy
Getting a shot from the deer stand with a bow is one thing. They are comming by or crossing threw the area. Not looking for the hunter from above.Calling, especialy at night. They are much more skittish. And much more focused on movement. I would think the act of drawing the bow alone would be enough to get busted time and again. Especialy if you are calling. Now if you were "tag teaming" with a buddy doing the calling, or using a remote caller placed up wind of your location, you may stand a chance, but I would think it still would be a small one. sticknstring
I'm not really worried about the draw, it's more on actually getting them critters to come in within bow range. I've never targeted them directly. In the regs, it says you can use lights after dark from Jan 1 - Mar 15th while using electronic callers. I'd have a hard time operating a light solo but could use the moonlight. Those of you that use electronic callers, what would be a few worthy suggestions without breaking the bank? Do coyotes pretty much come in downwind of the call most of the time?
Archerysniper
The only ones I have taken with a bow just happened to pass buy while in the stand I hunt all winter with the rifle on the full moon nights and have had them pick off my movement from a long ways away, but If you hunt them over a bait like a bear I think you would increase your odds greatly just have to see your pins if you use them good luck and let use know how it goes I do have a in on bait I might have to give it a try as well.
