ice auger gear ratio?

There is no actual "average" for augers. Gear ratio is determined by engine size vs rpm and approx HP output, vs final drive ratio and cutting head type. Like BartmanMN said, Strikemasters are 40:1, as are Strike lites...but Mag Xpress is 25:1. The 2 hp Jiffy's are 12:1 final ratio. Eskimo Sharks are 25:1, my Stingray is 49:1....lots of ratios out there.

I do not think you can come up with an average gear ratio for across the board.

As posted Strikemaster has a 40:1 gear ratio for their units this year with the SOLO engines.

In the past Strikemaster used a 25:1 on the Tecumseh engines but in 2005 they used the 40:1 gear ration on the 10" drills.

Jiffy has a 15:1 gear ration on their 3500 series and 12:1 on their 2500 series.

Eskimo uses a 25:1 gear ration on their Shark units and 30:1 on their Mako.

One thing to keep in mind it is not always about horsepower and gear ratio. You need to match the right horse power with the right gear ration to generate the right torque.

The lower the number on the gear ratio the faster it turns. (25:1 is faster than 40:1)

If you put the old 25:1 gear ration on the new SOLO engine from Strikemaster it will turn faster, but will it have the torque?
