Pretty sure it sounds like the general thought is that go with a Strikemaster. Sounds like they are reliable, easy idle, and start without a problem, and excellent service....

i am proud to say that i will soon be a strikemaster owner with in a week....

thanks to all who had input.

I use a 8" Jiffy that's 20+ years old, average well over 1000 holes each year. Raced 2 LazerMags last winter, blew one out of the water (9") and barely beat the other (8"). Also raced my buddy's Mag 2000 (8.25") and that was just a joke. I had 4 holes drilled before his SM was even warmed up enough to touch the throttle without bogging down. And when it was finally ready I drilled almost 2 to his 1.

Why is SM's customer service so great?? because every strikemaster owner has to use it at some point. And they may fix it for free but you still have a ruined fishing trip and the hassle of bringing it to them.

In 20 years we've never even thought about calling Jiffy customer service because there's been absolutely no need for it.

I really get sick of all the Jiffy bashing on here. I'm guessing most of it is coming from guys who have run 10" Jiffys as I don't like those either but my 8" absolutely screams and seems to last forever. Only knock on them is the weight but I'll take longevity over weight any day.

The only way that is true is that the blades were dull. I would buy your buddies new blades for xmas this year and you wouldn't compete.

THANKS JONESHAT11!! I knew there had to be something wrong with all 3 of their augers being that a lowly Jiffy model 30 beat them. I'll get right on those new blades!

I wont say jiffy is a bad auger, just heavy, loud and slow. I have owned a 8 inch jiffy 30 for over ten years and got a SM lazer last year at the beginning of the season. I had just replaced the blade on the jiffy and got tired of how slow and heavy it was. With the SM I could drill 2-3 holes to 1 with the jiffy and I don't need ear plugs. I am not trying to bash Jiffy cause they are a bulletproof auger but when you weigh all the facts I'll take the Lazer by a mile. This is just my opinion your entitled to yours.

Good to hear from someone who has owned both, that's where you'll get the most fair comparison from. I definitely agree with you on the Jiffy being loud, heavy, and bulletproof there's no denying that haha.

yep, my jiffy can sure has taken a beating. I've only sharpen that chiper blade twice and it needs it again, soon. I like the older jiffy's. If i had to buy a new one i would look at all the brands and find the one that would work for me. It would be fun and make one with a chainsaw motor, i think, lol.
