pikechaser
Im thinkin of picking up a electric meat grinder, looking at a 1/2 or 3/4 hp from cabelas. anyone have any experience with these? or other reccomendations? Thanks
Jim Almquist
I just sold my 3/4 hp and that motor will take just about anything that you can throw at it and it will not matter is the meat is frozen or not. The only reason I sold it is because I quit deer hunting not because of the grinder. Just make sure to get some food grade grease cause there is a plastic/silicone bushing that should be grease before any use.

Jim Almquist
If its a 1 hp it will be a #22 and if a 3/4 hp it will be a #12 but no matter what they should grind just fine.
Riich
I know this thread is a little old but I just stumbled across it. I have the 1 1/2 HP Cabela's grinder, and it eats meat like you wouldn't believe. It has the size 32 head. My buddy has the 1 HP unit with the 22 head, and it is incredible too. I don't think you could go wrong with any of the Cabela's grinders. Both of ours appear to be very well built. I made a little modification to my grinder: My safety net is now gone, but my little guys are all grown up! This thing really eats up the meat. paul pachowicz
Riich, I have the 1 1/2 Cabelas grinder too. A year later they came out with the 1 3/4 Hp so I bought that one too. The 42 head takes what you can feed it but, I didn't care for the final grind plate. So, I put the 1 1/2 head into the 1 3/4 motor with the 4 mm plate which worked fine. THEN they came out with a 4mm plate for the 1 3/4 which really works well. However, I do about 100 carcasses a year. I'm still in the market for a single phase 5 HP 220 Hobart though. Riich
That 42 head looks like it would eat a side of beef without a fight! I thought about getting that one myself but for one beef, a couple hogs and a few venison a year it seemed like overkill. Those Hobarts are spendy! Good luck. zeke7434
I have the cabela's 1hp grinder and it is more than enough for me. I have ground about 150 lbs of meat through it and am amazed at how well it works. They are a little spendy but if you are not in a hurry to buy one wait until they go on sale and save yourself a few bucks.
LABS4ME
My buddy found a venison processor whom was quitting the business and got the 220v grinder, lugs, recipies and old 40lb hand stuffer for $700... wish I had a horseshoe in my pocket. We can grind 50lbs of meat in a couple of minutes! I have the 3/4 hp Cabelas for smaller jobs and it still gets the job done pronto... 15 lb batches in a few minutes.... not too bad.Good Luck!Ken
