Mounting a tranducer on a trolling motor

ryanmitchell

Question

I am thinking about mounting the transducer I have on the bak transom,a nd moving it to the front trolling motor, as I will be purchasing a side imaging unit in the spring. I could keep both ducers in the back, but don't want any interference for the side imaging ducer. I would also like a 2nd opinion, if you will, from the front and back of the 17 foot boat we have and also a depth, temp view for the front angler.

Does anyone have any links or pics of how to do this? I have a Minn kota powerdrive V2. 55lb.

Thanks

There are trolling motor mounting kits available to do exactly as you are describing. It is basically a large hose clamp with a spacer/bracket. You can find them at most outdoor equipment stores that sell transducers/graphs.

What about the cable? Does it just hang loose?

Ryan, I have the same trolling motor. I zip tied the transducer cable in two places to the motor shaft. Directly below the control head and directly above the drive housing, leaving enough slack to make it around the boat mount while deploying. You need about 5-6 inches of slack.

"Rig-Rite" has a kit that will adapt to any size marine Hi-Speed ducer to a trolling motor by means of spacers to adjust for ducer width, very easy to use and install.

A few zip-strips or Velcro straps on the cable to the shaft will secure it, allow room for the shaft to deploy and retract between the zips.

Tip: Don't zip the strips too tightly near the point above and below the shaft at the point you deploy it, as you may need to adjust them from time to time. Velcro straps at these points is a good plan.
