madbomber10
Has anyone been out roughly in Fergus Falls area. We usually hit it pretty hard after deer season is over and I was wondering what people were seeing for pheasant numbers around that area. I am just guessing that there are a lot of crops in the fields yet just like everywhere else.
TylerS
Fergus Falls? Really?! My grandparents live in Fergus and I don't think I've ever seen a pheasant in the 25 years I've been there. My grandpa said years ago there used to be some, but I know there aren't any around his place. Maybe I need to pound some of the land around the family famrm. Hmm... CRAZYEYES
I've shot quite a few not too far west of fergus near wheaton. I used to got out there with a friend of mine who had some relatives with a farm. We always got birds but there are'nt near as many as there are just 45 minuites south of there. RaininFeathers
You guys think it is better near Ortonville area or down south near Windom? I have scouting reports from both areas so I am wondering which you think is better. I am mainly a duck hunter but getting after the pheasants this weekend because of the lack of ducks. I've done ok near ortonville a few years back. How is the crop situation...any come down this week with the warmer dry weather?
CRAZYEYES
I have seen a lot of birds not too far south of ortonville but I would suspect the corn is still all up around there because when I was out that way last week it was the worst area that i saw for standing water. I have not been to the windom area but a friend of mine that goes near heron lake did well on opener.
Ferny
I was just up in FF deer hunting and as of Sunday no corn was down. Pretty much hwy 94 from Clearwater to North Dakota very little corn down. I have only seen pheasants 1 year in the 20 I have been going up there. By the way every slew near Fergus is flooded. I have never seen so much water.Ferny.

I have no idea if there's any around this season though. Wouldn't be my "go to" destination, but there's generally a few around.
madbomber10
Thanks for the info. We have had success in the Orwell area the last 3 years or so, but with a lot of water that takes away the majority of what we usually walk. Looks like we will have to turn our attention further south and/or west until everything freezes up.
muc33
I can assure you if you come hunt near Windom, you will have much better odds. Plain and simple.
OTCBigBass
crops have been coming off in full bore the last few days. But the numbers seem to be way down this year.
