hunting stands on public land question

what is the law on tree stands on state or federal land? according to the 2009 hunting booklet the stands are not allowed over 16 ft., and no permanent stands on wma's. other than that it's ok to put one up, is this correct?

I believe its just state forest land where you can build a permanent stand. And yes 16ft sounds right. Im pretty sure perm stands are not allowed on Federal land. Someone correct me if Im wrong.

Last year we ran into the game warden when we were hunting the Nemadji State Forest and he said that basically you can build a permanent stand with no problems. Not sure if you mean building permanents or just puting up a portable,but pretty sure both are ok except what you said about WMA's

No permanent stands are allowed in the national forests in Minnesota.

Some counties have restrictions about building stands. I hunt in Cass County and it is now illegal to build a stand on county owned land....I have hunted out of a permanent stand that somebody built for a few years now and it's actually to the point where it's no longer safe due to rotting issues. Still, I wouldn't want to be caught out there with lumber and hardware should somebody call it in.
