Sorgy
Guy's, I am looking at picking up a scope and the mounts for my son's 870 20 Guage. What are the simplest scope mount(s) and a fairly cheap/reliable scope. I am thinking 2.5 power fixed. Probably be a Chrismas present for him. I have seen the mounts that fit over the reciever that are held in by longer pins where the trigger assembly is. Are they problematic from year to year if you remove the mount w/scope or do they hold zero well. Do you have to take it off to clean up after a damp day in the field to prevent rust on the reciever. His is the matte finish-terrible for rust Thanks for the help Steve
Cwboymn1
Ahlmans will drill and tap the reciver for $45.00, this would be the most accurate but yes you will have to re sight it in if you take it off, every year you should plan on resighing in before the season regardless of taking it off or not since it only takes a small bump to throw it offas to a scope i would choose either a dot scope or like a prostaff 3x9, Personly i like the the deer to look huge in the scope since they are usualy are lot smaller when i get to them
Gordie
B square mount I think that FF and other sporting good stores carry them as for a scope spent a bit more and it will be good for him as long as he owns the gun. I have had these mounts on my 870 for 25 plus years and have not had any problems with them. I do not leave it on from season to season either. Just make sure that the bolts are tight when you put it on.
