mudslinger
I have a fairly big boat and blind. Generally, I cut fresh vegitation every morning after I throw decoys. By this time in the season, im tired of breaking a sweat in the dark so what are the rules? Can I cut cattails, set up my blind, pack up the cattails when the hunt is over, haul them in my trailered boat til the next hunt where I will camo my blind with them once again??? I always cut new cause I feel it is illegal to transport them.
RumRiverRat
I was told by a CO on opening weekend that cutting Cattails is illegal. It is news to me if it is.I have tried to find something in the regs about it but have come up empty.Just did a search of the Waterfowl Supplement and found:On Page 12Invasive species such as purple loosestrife, Eurasian watermilfoil and zebra mussels can damage habitat for fish, waterfowl and other wildlife. It is illegal to transport most aquatic plants and zebra mussels in or on boats, trailers, or decoys in boats, when on public roads. However, waterfowl hunters may use emergent aquatic plants, such as cattails and bulrushes, cut above the waterline, for building blinds. Off Topic:You hunting Sunday Morning? riverrat56
I'd pony up and buy some Fast Grass for your blind and just end the hassle, scatter in some more green rafia grass like for a goose blind early in the season and just go with that. It's hassel free in the morning for us, just pop up the blind and hunt
Gordie
I agree with riverrat thats what I have and I ad the real stuff to it to break it up abit it works awsome mudslinger I also add tree branches, foxtail grass, and the stuff the county cuts in the dicthes as a thatch it works really well. I also saw a guy that use old fake X-mas trees the branches he painted them camo tan, brown, green and stuck them in where he need them I want to try that but The wife would kill me if I took the family tree I'm going to start collecting them from garage sales next summer and try and do a hole blind on my ten ft boat with them. goblueM
its legal to cut cattails, and i do think you can transport them. i've thought about doing it, seems a guy could save money by taking an hour to cut some, instead of shelling out a ton of money for some raffia grass
mudslinger
RRR thanks for the suppliment info. It seems that it is legal by what I have read also. I guess I'll walk into one of the DNR offices I hunt by and ask. Until then, I'll keep my machete sharp. I've thought about investing in the fast grass stuff but I'm at a loss how to camo/attach it to my Beavertail blind. I've also thought about the ditch grass thing too. Off topic: I have the next three days off and plan to hunt tue wed mornings
