Wondering if anyone has any tips on the use of Mojos within your decoy spread.

We primarily hunt small potholes. We only have 1 Mojo and typically put out 12-15 mallard decoys. We have been using two small groups of decoys off to each side with the Mojo in the middle somewhere.

Are there different decoy formations that you have had success with in the past? Where to put the Mojo in relation to the rest of the decoys? How high off the water for the Mojo?

Any hints/tips are appreaciated. Thank you!

I don't really have a secret but I like to put the mojos where I want to shoot the ducks, usually in front of me because the ducks like to land where the Mojo(s) are, from my experience.

Quack - you seem to have this waterfowl thing down...what is your experience with geese over water while using a mojo? I'm interested in trying a mojo but I love pounding the random geese we get in over the water and I've heard that geese flare from the mojos over water but not so much while field hunting so I'm hesitant......any truth to that?

I know I'm not Quack but I hunt exclusively over water and I have killed honkers over water with mojo's out. yes they are weary of the spinning wings but if you have it away from the goose decoys it is possible to do it. If I am hunting a migration wind I just leave the mojo's in the boat. If I'm hunting week old birds the mojo's fly. there is a time and a place for everything. if you have a loner goose that drops in you should be fine. working a flock is a little tougher

just try it you might be surprised. if the geese flaire pull it and hopefully you get another chance at another flock

What Dan said is right on.

You know I've had geese come right in when the Mojo is going when on water or field but it does not happen often. Last Sunday we had 3 geese that came in hard and did not care about the spinners. I usually will have them off or taken down when geese are flying then when a limit is shot or its slow I'll have the mojos running again.

So to answer your question, yes they will flare most of the time and sometime will give you a long range shot.

AF-1984 thats a nice looking pup in your picture, it looks a lot like mine. how old, and where did ya get him from?

She is slightly over 1 1/2 now, but was probably 8-9 months in that picture. We got her from a guy in Princeton. I believe Darren was his name. She was a birthday present from the wife, so I had limited contact with the breeder.
