Trout fishing hot spots in the Driftless

I am paid nothing for this. I am a regular member just like the rest of you who has paid to join the HSO Club to support this site.

I'm going to be spilling the beans more on some awesome trout fishing locations to a "few" who support HSO in the HSO Club Forum. I will be doing this on the HSO Club's private members Forum. Thread already started. Plus the board is more relaxed with links. On top of that you get private messages. Only $2.99 a year.

General advice and more well known stream info posted here. Info offered in the HSO Club:

- Trout regulations

- Trout map info

- Maps for areas of Habitat Improvement (HI) in MN and WI

- Info on public easement info for MN and WI

- Info on how to use GIS County maps to ID landowners and gain access to private land

-- Stream etiquette.

-- GPS coordinates to the good spots.

Trout fishing also takes you to incredible destinations with plenty of other attractions for your family too. Trout streams are pristine environments that do not tolerate pollutants. Populations are also at record highs now and angler harvest is low due to the Catch & Release movement. Explore the Driftless Areas, you will be blown away by her beauty.

I can help you get started and offer you a ton of great spots to try and likely have success. I have been fly fishing, spin fishing, and bait fishing for 13 years and have put my time in. Now is the time to learn about a new sport and prepare for a new season during this down time.

I look forward to a lively discussion for anyone with any questions or feedback in regards to trout fishing in the Midwest.

Really glad to have PMs at a reasonable price. PMs will be the way to go for a limited group of HSO supporters to share some top notch spots. Promoting the sport. Believe too many trout fisherman are not good at sharing.

On the private board or in PM ask me what you are looking for - spin, fly, bait. Big trout or just catch a bunch or trout. Want easy hiking or willing to rough it to get to "untouched" water?

Some have a problem with sharing "GPS coordinates." Well it is the same as emailing a map or telling you were to fish - a location. Some share Google earth files, same difference. There is rhe Scott Hanson book that gives GPS coordinates to all and nobody cries about that anymore. I've been active on several fly fishing oriented message boards and can tell you most folks trade spots with folks all the time, yet it is done only in PMs and nobody wants to admit it. In this age there really isn't a "secret spot" anyway. If you know it chances are a dozen others do too.

The way I see it, I want to promote trout fishing, especially with the younger generation which has less interst these days in hunting and gathering due to many social factors. Sharing information including qualified spots should help promote the sport.

Alright, I have stayed out of numerous conversations on this board due to the nature of them, but I need to say my piece and then let it be. This forum (trout) is for sharing pictures, techniques, stories, successes, failures, and conversation with fellow trout anglers. It is not for berating, persuading, bashing, and bullying. We all know that there are fewer and fewer trout anglers each year, but giving out coordinates isn't necessarily going to get more people fishing for trout, it is only going to add pressure to spots that some of us rely on for peace and quiet. Post some well known spots, give out a hot bait, pattern, fly, whatever you think will help someone......better yet, take someone fishing and show them your spots......

I for one lived in Duluth for a few years and would drive to the Brule to get some peace and quite (I can hear some of you laughing now), but if you went at the right times you were all alone and had the river to yourself. I fly fish exclusively for trout but I don't care if I walk up on someone throwing a Mepps and catching steelhead or browns (as long as it's legal) and keeping them, good for them!

What I don't want is people trying to convince me to keep a fish (trout, walleye, crappie, etc.) because it's MY choice. Please continue to use this forum for what it was intended for, sharing information and stories about trout.

Last day to pony up a measly $3 for a fishing board you love. You get PMs, a private fishing board, and you get to check user profiles - previous posts. A lot of basic stuff you could get for free on other sites, sure. But this board is HUGE. We have a ton of members. $3 is a drop in the bucket. That is an iPhone app.

Anyway, plenty of good fishing advice on boards. PMs are the way to go and they only cost $3/year? I've had a half dozen conversations on PM already and say the $3 already paid for itself. Seems like a no brainer.
