How to build an ice house?

I have a car, and I have access to snowmobiles on the lake that I want to put a permenant fish house. I would like to build it for $400 or less. Does anyone have any good ideas on house that is moveable with a snowmobile? It doesnt need to be anything fancy, but I would like it to be of solid material.

how big? i would say a 6x8 heavy or a 8x8 light house could be pulled with a sled on hard snow. i would use 2x2 studs, tin for extioror, 1/2 ply wood and 2x4s for the floor, and 1" pink inslulation should make a relatively light house. alos make 3 skis so it can "float" better on the snow instead of pushing it.

You'll be pushing it to get it done for $400...but it depends on size and what sorts of things you want inside, and how closely you watch HSO-Classifieds.

I'm doing an 8x12 skid house right now that will be close to $2k when I'm done. Here's a breakdown for costs for mine:

-I have about $300 in just framing lumber. You'll save about 50% off studs by ripping 2x4's in half.

-A door is about $100, but you could probably build one-I am.

-Windows are a minimum of $50/each. I have 2-$100

-Rubber roof is $100 + about $50 for glue-$150

-Paneling will run about $10/sheet for the low end stuff. I'm doing knotty pine tongue and groove for about 50% more-$175

-Foam insulation is about $15/sheet for pink or blue, half that for the white crumbly stuff-$250. I'm saving about $50 by using R13 fiberglass in the ceiling.

-You can probably get some cheaper RV lights, or even use a lantern, I bought all LED's-$180

-Siding-You could use OSB or cheap plywood and paint it for about $7/sheet. That would be the least expensive route. I'm doing steel-$200

-Car stereo-$130

-Heater-$500...could use a non vented for about $100

-There are all sorts of small things that really add up, screws ($7/box), PL400 ($3/tube), wire ($$), fuses/blocks ($$), gas line, etc

I'll be starting a thread with my build pics once I get more time to start working on it again.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
