kitchen design

Hello all!

You all know we're in the middle of house renovations, and I think we're going to do a complete overhaul inside as well, (we had originally planned on only our entrance) so my question is this:

our kitchen right now is arranged so that my sink is low of the old exterior kitchen window which has been changed into an opening into our living room (which is an addition onto the original house) but the new design we have for the kitchen is to move the sink to a wall where there is no window or opening.. is that ok? I have looked at many lay-outs for kitchens and see that the sink always goes under an opening of sorts. We want to go with a "U" shaped kitchen from the original 1 counter top. The "opening" I speak of that is there now over the sink is going to be our new entrance into the addition,, hence the moving of the sink.

any advice or opinions of this sure would be appreciated!

Sue

A window over the sink is more of a selling point. People would rather be able to look out the window than stare at a blank wall while doing the dishes.

If it were me, I would atleast try and position the sink on an exterior wall and cut a window over it. In the overall cost of your remodel, adding a window is a drop in the bucket. But obviously if the only place/s you can put it doesn't work for you then placing it wherever you like it won't hurt anything.

in this day 'n age, who does dishes anymore?? LOL

yea, I am re-vamping our kitchen plans, and am thinking of punching a window in over the sink that will look into the living room, as we don't have an exterior wall in our kitchen.

That is the setup we had growing up- an opening into the living room over the kitchen sink. In the first house, it was because of an addition, but when they moved into a townhouse, my dad had them cut a window shaped hole to overlook the living room. You would really like that, I think.
